Sent to Car Experts July 15, 2005 7:42 p.m.

2002 chevrolet truck sat for a couple of weeks and now won't start. replace the battery and had the alternator rebuilt - where else should I look? It always started great before. The indicator panel said it was in the charging system.

It did before the alternator was rebuilt, then after that it wouldn't even crank, so changed the battery and now it won't even crank. Wondering if it could be the starter, but thinking it may have something to do with sitting for a couple of weeks because it has never been a problem in the past.

You have to check to see if the battery is still charged, see if the headlights work, and if they get dim when you try to start the truck. Then and post back.

The headlights work and do not dim when you try to start the truck. It just clicks like it might be the starter, but would that be considered part of the charging system?

If the starter is clicking it sounds like there is not enough power in the battery to turn the engine over. Witch would require charging the battery, or jump starting with jumper cables (remember positive to positive and negative to negative). Once you get the truck running then the charging system can be checked with a volt meter.

Would that be the case even with a new battery?

It is charging right now - they said it was charged when I bought it, hopefully that's all it is.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Once you get it running if you have a volt meter check the voltage (while runnig) it should be above at least 13.5 volts
