Volvo a/c

Sent to Car Experts June 30 08:44 PM

The a/c in my 1995 volvo 960 is ice cold with a new compressor.
The problem is every time you accelerate the fan slows down
and the air gets warm. When you start to cruse the air comes
back on and continues to run until you start to accelerate again.
Then the same problem again until you start to cruise, then ok.
Any help will be appreciated.

It sounds like a vacuum supply problem to the AC controls; there should be a check valve in the vacuum line between the engine and the AC control assembly to prevent the symptoms you describe under low engine vacuum conditions, such as accelerating. If you find the vacuum supply hose, i would bet you either find a leaking vacuum hose or a bad check valve.

What happens, is when the vacuum supply drops too low, the vacuums ervo operated doors in the heater case move to their default positions, which is usually defrost vents and warm air on most vehicles.

Reply to Steve7654's Post: Thanks Steve7654 for info on vacuum leak. It is probably the
cause of the problem. Now..how do I fix it. Volvo probably
wants a billion dollars to test & repair. I already spent $1,000 at
a/c shop for new compressor and now it no longer blows cold
air, could be from the vacuum leak? The a/c shop is no help.
Doesn't sound like a DIY repair, right or wrong. HELP, THANKS
