1999 Ford Windstar Minivan
Sent to Car Experts June 28 03:01 PM

I have a 1999 Ford Windstar Minivan. We could smell it buring antifreeze. Filled it with a mixture of half antifreeze and half water, it's gone. Filled it with just water to get to mechanic. The mechanic said it was an intake hose spraying water indside the engine. Estimated cost of repairs $1500.00 What is wrong and could this be an accurate estimate? Could our problem also be with the water pump, or head gaskets. The engine never did overheat. What else could possibly be wrong?

I would get a second opinion from some one else. The dealership may be a good place to go.You will have to pay a diagnostic fee to verify the problem but $1500 is a big chunk of change. If it is head gaskets it may well be that much money to repair it.There is no hose inside the engine so either the person who checked it is some one to avoid anyhow or you misunderstood him I don't know I wasn't there.Maybe you should call him for clarification. If this answer helps please click on my accept button. If you feel it helped you very much you may add a bonus if you wish.If you have further questions on this matter please ask.

Reply to Davo/diablo666's Post: This is a problem that would not have passed a smog or diagnostic check. The leak looked like it was above the headgaskets, closer to dealing with the cooling system. Originally we thought it was the water pump, but we were unable to clearly define where the water pump is. The hose had some sealant placed on it as a quick fix, this was done by the previous owners. The actual hoses for the freon system were on the other side of the engine. Thank you!

Please do yourself a favor and take the vehicle to the dealer and let them check it there is no such thing as a $1500 hose. The freon system as you call it has nothing to do with any antifreeze smell.

Reply to Davo/diablo666's Post: We spoke with the mechanic and he told me that we have water and coolant leaking into the manifold from the intake hose. What can of damage can be done already from this? Is this going to be an ongoing problem with this vehicle? Thanks
