Sent to Car Experts June 17 06:20 PM

i have a 93 grand cherokee that will not come out of park with the truck running and the brake applied. the brakes and transmission work as advertised other than that. i have to shift the truck into neutral to start it or i wouldn't be able to shift out of park and drive. where should i be looking for the problem at?

It sounds like your having a problem with the shift interlock system. There is a solonoid in the console that is energized by the brake switch, You will have to take the console apart to acces the solonoid and check to see if it's received power when the brake is applied with the key on.. If it is, you will have to replace the solonoid.
