Question

No ignition, no current to the coil

Sent to Car Experts June 10, 2005 11:26 a.m.

This is Customer (name blocked for privacy) with the '85 Chevy S-10 Blazer, 2.8 liter, 4 WD, carbeurated, automatic. I'm not getting any current to the coil. I've installed a new coil, and a new alternator. Tech501 has me testing circuits coming into the coil. Tech501, are there any components other than wires, that can fail between the battery and the coil? Even with the new coil installed I can hold on tto the terminal that should send current from the coil to the alternator while the starter cranks the engine and feel no shock. Not even a tickle. I seem to recall that we had a similar problem with this same vehicle 8 years ago and eventually replaced something located on or near the firewall. I could certainly be wrong about this, but are there one or more components between the battery and the coil that could have failed?

Yes. I wasn't sure if accepting the answer meant the end of the transaction. I'm closing this one.

One of the FAQ's in the customer service section says that you can't delete a question once someone has answered, so I guess I can't absolutely close this question, but I assume I can let it expire and use this reply to inform anyone looking that I'm actively pursuing this problem through the first question string I posted (no electricity to the coil), but not this one.

You can't delete it but you can close it. You should have a button there somewhere on the page.
