Air Conditioning

Sent to Car Experts June 08 06:13 PM

I just recentily retrofited a 1988 Pont. Grand Am I and the compressor is working fine, no leaks, but it will not hold even close to the required amount of R-134a that it needs to hold before exceeding the pressure limits. The only thing I can think of is that it could possibliy over charged with oil.

The oil won't increase the pressure. I hope you removed as much of the original oil as possible before charging with R134. The mineral oil is not compatable with the R134. Also be advised that the proper charge for a retrofit is 80% of the original R12 charge. Make sure your cooling fan is working problerly. Also, did you evacuate the system first. Air in the system WILL raise the pressures.
