Question

93 Ford Explore, traces of trans, fluid found in intake man.

Sent to Car Experts June 06, 2005 12:40 a.m.

I have a 93 Ford explorer (Eddie Bouwer edition)v6 200,000+miles, I had the trans. fluids changed in Nov.94. Right before I had the trans. fluid and filter changed, I thought the pan was leaking.Well , until this Feb., I notice that I was losing trans. fluid at a quart and a half a day. I travel on a daily bases about 100 miles aday. I then started looking for places the trans fluid could be going. I then pulled off the vacuum house from the upper intake, down to the right side of the transmission. I just removed the heads and reinstalled new gaskets. While I was cleaning the upper intake, a good amount of tran. fluid came from out of the upper intake. Can you let me know , what are my options of how the trans. fluid got into the upper intake?

Sounds like you have a bad modulator valve in the tranny. The diaphram is broken and sucking fluid up through the vacuum line and burning it in the engine. Replacxe the modulatore valve and you should be OK. It's easy to change but watch for a small rod and make sure you don't lose it.
