I have a 2003 Passat GLX & have told that my front & rear brakes are down to the metal & I need my CV joint replaced & my horn isn''t working & needs both horns replaced. My dealer quoted $450 & $550 for the sets of brakes, (seems very high to me) $550 for the CV joint & $450 for the horns. Am I being taken for a ride or is this accurate pricing?

Optional Information:
2003 Volkswagen Passat GLX V6

Already Tried:
Nothing. I just got this quote last night & friends tell me i can get brakes at Midas for 1/4 of my quote.

Hello Customer (name blocked for privacy) and welcome to Just answer.com, Super mechanic here. In my opinion you can get a better than OE brake part from an independent parts supplier. For instance, Beck Arnley has semi-metalic brake pads for about $115 a set. A fair amount of labor would be about $150. So, if the rotors are still good that is around $380

The CV joints, assuming it is both sides. A remanufactured halfshaft you can get from like an Autozone store for about $130 tops. Times 2, you have $260 Lets say labor to be about $160 give or take, so it's up to $420

Now as far as horns go, there are several after market horns available for under $25 each. Labor would have to be no more than $80 for both. The dealer has always been higher in price than your independent shops. They might match the price or be close to it on some things, but I don't know what might be inside the horns to make them so costly. You might want to try shopping around before you commit to any work that is more costly than it needs to be, thanks
