Reply to carguy1's Post: the noise continues through the braking until i reach 0. once at 0 and i have the brake fully applied during a red light there is no noise..once the light turns green and i press the gas, the car lurches forward suddenly, then from 0-20mph i hear the noise as if something was scraping the road and once at 20 it stops and my car is like it normally is.

I have tried what you asked and the noise did diminish a bit, but once i stopped to 0 and sped up slowly to 20 the noise was still there, once i surpass 20 the noise stops. Do the brakes that "could have come loose" only function from 0-20mph range and thats it?

just sounds like its underneath the car, i had all my windows down so i could listen and the best i can tell you is coming from under the car. i checked and there is nothing hitting the ground to make the noise at all. could my 1st gear be dead on my car?

automatic transmission. ok let me try to explain this again.

- im at 0mph at a light with my foot on the brake (no noise)

-light turns green i press the gas lightly, my car lurches forward sharply and starts to make the noise

-i keep accelerating slowly (noise is still present), once the car reaches where it would shift to 2nd gear i can feel the shift when driving and once that shift happens the noise stops. i can accelerate all the way to 80 or whatever noise free

- i come to another light i start to slow down, brakes are going fine, i hit where it downshifts from 2nd gear to 1st and the noise begins again (sounds like a scraping noise) until i hit 0 and the noise stops

the car has 90k miles on it, its rear wheel drive, 2001 jeep cherokee sport. have never replaced any major engine parts, its been accident free. most of the miles are on a highway.

ok well i just checked all my fluids in my car.

oil - was fine, still 2k away from having to get it done according to the sticker and last bill (also was normal colored)

transmission fluid - was below he add on the stick, dipped it a few times always came up below the add (color was red)

coolant fluid - was right at the add line (normal colored)

does that help or change anything other than me going to the store and getting some transmission fluid and adding it.

Any other suggestions?

i really appreciate everything so far
