all of a sudden my car is starting to run through power steering fluid, like a pint every few days, and is making a really straining noise, and steering in slow is almost like the old standard (NON-POWERED) effort to move especially when parking. I also get a burning smell while car is warming up.

Optional Information:
1997 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cylinder

Already Tried:
adding power fluid oil

Sounds like it could be a leaking power steering pump or pressure hose. Either of which could be dripping or slinging fluid onto engine parts (like exhaust) and burning off when the vehicle is operated. The only way to be sure is to carefully check for leaks while the engine is off around the power steering pump, or when the engine is running and the steering wheel is slowly turned for the hoses since a pin-hole leak in a hose is almost impossible to find without having PS fluid shooting out of it.
