I have a 1979 corvette. I just bought this from a guy who bought it from another person. Supposedly, it had been overhauled and has only 3500 miles since the overhaul. This was about 2 --- 3 years ago. My problem is loud tappet noise. Don't seem to hear this at start up but after the engine is warmed up. It has an agressive cam.......seems to idle rough. What can I do? The car runs out fine. I did change oil two days ago. I put in synthethic oil.

I would adjust the valves then. You need to remove the valve covers and start the engine and idle. They sell oil deflectors for this but you can do it without them but it is messy.Back off a rocker arm nut until it clacks then tighten it until it quits clacking.Turn it 3/4 of a turn in 1/4 turn increments slowly until you reach 3/4 of a turn. Then do all the rest of them the same way.It would be a good idea to keep a fire extinguisher handy just in case you get oil on the exhaust manifolds. An old set of valve covers can be cut out and used to deflect the oil also.
