I have a 1971 corvette 350 small block, auto tran when appling brakes in gear with a slow & fast stop, the engine shuts off. Doing the same in netural the engine stays running. What would be causing this problem

Sounds like a Vacuum Loss at the Brake Booster. The RPM's are higher in Neutral, so the Engine would recover, but when in Drive the RPM's are less & it is harder for the engine to recover, because of the Load
Cap off the Vacuum hose going to Booster & try it.
Be careful, the Brakes will be Much Harder to stop.

Ok the vacum hose going to the booster is coming from the back of the carb?
