1965 Mustang Convertible starter problem

Sent to Car Experts October 22, 2006 10:33 p.m.

I just got a 1965 Mustang Convertible. It runs and looks great. However, I am having a starter problem. When I turn the key one of two things happens. Either the engine turns over a few times and starts fine OR the engine turns over about 1/2 a time and doesn't start. If I try a few times, eventually, the starter will turn over the engine normally and start the car. I already replaced the 6 year old battery with a new one.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Check the Battery Cables first. On the Battery to the Solenoid. From the Solenoid to the Starter. Be sure they are Clean & Tight.
Next, be sure the Starter wire at the Solenoid is also Tight.

If the problem persists, you will need to do a Voltage Check from Ignition Switch to Solenoid. From Solenoid to the Starter.
It may be a Faulty Solenoid, Starter, or Ignition Switch.
