I replaced both tach and odometer cables on my 1970 Corvette last week.
The odometer gauge has never worked since I own the veh and the tach just stop working last month.
When I tested the ends with a drill gun both gauges were working inside the dash.
However, when I conect the cables to the distribitor and the trans the gauges do not work. The small plastic gear in the trans tail looks to be ok.
Is there somthing else in the trans that me be damaged. Do I need to pull the distribitor out to check the gears?
Do I need to drop the trans?

youre on the right track there. since the cables and guages are good, the gear that drives them will be malfunctioning. before you start taking things apart, i would suggest the test you have done at the guage side of the cable (just turn by hand as to not damage the cable) if it turns easily then there is problems with the driving gears inside the corresponding component. (this will most likely be the case) ensure that the cable's driving gear is contacting the cable's driven gear. if good, then ensure that the gears in the components in question are spinning as needed(if you can access them try to spin the gear by hand) you should not be able to turn them under normal conditions without moving the next gear or dirving component.
