Trouble shooting the operation of the power rear

Sent to Car Experts December 07, 2006 5:40 p.m.

The power rear hatch of my 2002 Chrysler, Town & Country won't open when the button (both remote & in side is pressed you can hear the latch activate, and a couple of warning beeps, that's all that happens. I've checked the fuse, it's not blown.

You are going to have to pull the rear hatch trim panel and look at the actuator and latch. There is a rod that connects the 2 and it is probably off, or the latch mechanism is worn out

After doing as you suggested, and removing the latch mechinism from the hatch mounting, I did get the door to operate with the use of the remote or inside the vechile button. I decided that the mechanical parts needed lubrication, thus I sprayed them with silicone. I put it all back together, and it worked just fine, both opening and closing. The next day, it was back to it's original thing. Not operating. Do you have anyother suggestions?

It does click, right? That means all the remote function controls are working and the problem is in the latch.

Some of these have a seperate lock motor and some are built together. If yours are seperate see if the lock actuator is pulling all the way each time you operate it. If not the actuator is bad, it it does the latch is bad. If they are a unit you will have to replace the whole thing.
