I have a 1996 Chrysler Sebring JXI. It has 90,000 miles on it. For the past 2 months, it just dies. I then turn it back on and it is fine. I have taken it to 2 mechnics and the delaership, but no one can find out why it is doing it. It doesn't happen all the time; there is no rhyme or reason when it does it. I really like the car and want to keep it, but I am scared to drive it.

Can anyone help me please??

it will be hard to diagnosi this if it doesn't act up while tech is driving it. It will most likely be a crank sensor but with out being able to duplicate the problem this is just a guess. How ofter does it do this and what are the conditions when it does it. Any of this info can help the tech duplicate the condition to verify cause. Also a scan tool on it will help if the problem does occure. Be aware you may need to leave it with a shop for several days for them to verify what is going on. As I said above the crank sensor is a very common problem on these and the more info you can give on when it occures the beeter the tech will be able to duplicate and fix problem

Reply to Tim Basham's Post: It never does it when a tech drives it. I left it all day at the dealership but they said there is not more they could do. There are no conditions when this happens. It could be hot, cold, short drive, long drive-doesn;t matter. It doesn't happen every day either. It is intermittent. I gave them all the information I could.

Have they ever found any codes stored in the computer when you took it in or has the check engine light ever came on.

Reply to Tim Basham's Post: The last thing the dealership tried was clean MAP sensor . The sheet says found code baro pressure out of ring. It ran without stalling for two seeks after that, but now it is doing the same thing.

First is this longer than it had been going between occurrences and if so they cleaned it not replaced it. I would have to say if they just cleaned it I would replace it and see what happens. I checked bulletin's but nothing came up that seems to be related.

Reply to Tim Basham's Post: Yes. They found Product code 047-268 and replaced the 02 sensor bank-if that makes sense. This was the mechanic before the dealership. At this time, the service light did go on and off. But this was prior to the last checkup where they couldn't find anything.

None of this makes sense to me, I hope it does to you.

Reply to Tim Basham's Post: According to the mechanic, they replaced it. In any event, the same day it started dying again. That's when I took it to the dealership.

If the MAP sensor made a difference even for a short time I would take the chance and replace it. It can cause this condition. It is always nice to verify problem but not always possible. The prices on a MAP sensor start at 68$ so its Not extremely expensive. this is what it looks like Images available only to Customers.

and it is easy to replace if you want to try your self and save on the labor.
