Question

i have a chrysler new yorker and my quotcheck gauges quot

Sent to Car Experts December 29, 2005 11:01 a.m.

I have a 90 chrysler new yorker and my "check gauges" light keeps blinking when i come to a complete stop. I read my car manual and it says" Any time this light comes on it means one of three things: Problem with the oil level and/or pressure, the coolant level, and voltage level. If this continues to happen after i have added oil and coolant will i break my car even more, maybe beyond repair? I just would like to know some type of definitive information before i take it to be serviced. Can anyone answer this question? Thanks, Sarah

Optional Information:
1990 Chrysler new yorker dont know

Already Tried:
i have changed the thermostat because it was overheating and put on a new radiator cap. I had laser lube do an oil change and then i added two quarts of oil myself less than two weeks after laser lube. The dipstick says the oil level is fine. But when the check gauges light comes on the oil level plummets to the red/ zero area and this doesnt change until i take it out of idle, either by putting it in neutral or drive.

REPLIED Check Mark

Hi Sarah, You should have your vehicle serviced right away. A mechanical oil pressure gauge will need to be installed to verify you really have low oil pressure and not just a shorted sensor. If low oil pressure exists you could be depriving important components from lubrication. Plugged oil pick up screen, faulty oil pump or bearings can contribute to low oil pressure but a gauge must be installed first to avoid an expensive repair. Happy New Year.
