Question

96 dodge grand caravan transmission

Sent to Car Experts September 07, 2005 10:11 a.m.

i have a 96 dodge grand caravan. 3.0 fuel injected. 3 speed auto trans. full power equip. no abs. 136,000 miles.
I had the trans fluid and filter changed. When they took the pan off there was a lot of what looked like gold dust on the bottom of the pan. I believe he said some kind of brass, sleve was being desinigrated. There were no large chunks just dust. They wanted $300.00 dollars to take it apart to find out what it needed. I am not having any transmission driveability problems. They wouldn't give me a quote on a rebuilt or remanfactured trans until it is torn down. My question is: Is my trans doomed to failure or is it a normal occeurrence for a chrysler trans? If i need a rebuilt or remanfactured trans what price range am i looking at?
