If you are experiencing pinging I would check your timing and your Egr valve to make sure it's opening Also check the knock sensor if so equiped. Best bets are timing or EGR.

Did you disconnect the battery because the check engine light was coming on?. If so have the codes read and give us the numbers.

maf is new as air charge temp sensor and tp sensor. the truck runs well in open loop and at full throttle it seems to be at its worst at part throttle under load.

yea i figure i'm going to have to have someone with a more sofisticated scan tool have a look because i can't keep throwing money at this turd. when yuor codes are clean you are left guessing. the only thing i have not changed yet is the o2 sensors .

Stop throwing parts at it and have somebody knowledgable in driveability analyze to data before going any further. All that data will tell a story if you know how to interpret it. It may be a bad computer in the end.

i went to work a different way today which involves getting right off the highway to ahalf throttle hill climb at 50mph and i expierienced none of the surging that i usually have that is until the road leveled out and throttle opening closed up. this makes me think my o2 sensors are not staying up tp temp around town. how about that for a theory?

just a note. i changed first the right o2 sensor which got rid of 80% of the surge and replacing the left got rid of the rest. so a clean trouble code does'nt mean a whole hell of a lot in my book. thank you for your help and suggestions and your time. sincerly rich roani.

An O/2 not crosscounting from rich to lean will promp a code to be set if the computer is working properly.
