I have a 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix SE with 2.8 L engine and 5 speed manual transmission. I am experiencing engine misfire when accelerating but when the engine reaches speed, the engine runs as smooth as silk. Any suggestions as to what causes this?

Optional Information:

Already Tried:

Greetings! What about the coils? Have u changed them?

Are there any codes in the computer? Is the check engine light on?

Have not changed any coils - no engine codes in the computer - no check engine light on -- Original problem began almost a year ago on a trip down from Chicago to Miami -- After 900 miles of uneventful travel, the engine started to stall out when gas pedal was depressed to accellerate - when the gas was released and the clutch engaged, the engine ran OK at idle but stalled when gas pedal was pressed. After 3 days in Chattahoochee, Florida repair shop where one faulty fuel injector was replaced - Before that, we tried replacing the fuel filter, tested the fuel pump for pressure, checked all the spark plugs and wires.

Sounds like the coils are bad.

Keep in mind that fuel injectors can be bad two ways. Mechanically and electronically. If they are mechanically plugged only sometimes fuel injector clear through the gas tank will work enough to clean them out completely. If they are electronically bad and the electrical specs are out, fuel injector cleaner will not work at all!

Where are the coils located? Is there a way to test the fuel injectors for electronic problems??

Follow the spark plug wires from the plugs and they will go to the coils. U can ohm out each injector after removing the intake manifold (if in the way). 11.8 to 12.8 ohms. NO more or no less!
