Question

air turn idle 2001 jeep

Sent to Car Experts September 15, 2005 6:05 p.m.

Jeep Grand cherokee 2001 does not idle. it turns on and runs but when you stop and let it idle it cuts down in revolutions and dies out. if you turn the air cond on it stays on more time since the revolutions run up a little. why does it cutoff in idle?

Probably a sticking Iac Air Control motor. It sits on the throttle body and has a 4 wire connector. With the engine running you can unplug the sensor(the check engine light will set) but the idle should drop real low. If it stays the same, the motor is sticking, you can try removing and cleaning the valve and the passageways on the throttle body with carburetor cleaner. Otherwise it will need replacement.
