OK, from everything I can gather here you have the VQ30DE engine. That's the only one that gets involved with the timing chain to access the water pump. Here are the instructions for removing the cover on theat engine. I hope this helps you. Please click on the ACCEPT button after viewing.

VQ30DE Engine

See Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4

The engine mount on the front (passenger side) of the engine and the lower and upper oil pans must be removed to remove the timing chain cover. Refer to the Oil Pan Procedure and the Timing Chain procedure for more information.

  1. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.

  2. Drain the engine oil and coolant from the engine.

  3. Remove the splash shields from under the vehicle.

  4. Remove the drive belts and the idler pulley bracket.

  5. Remove the power steering pump.

  6. Remove the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors.

  7. Remove the intake manifold collector.

  8. Remove the crankshaft damper.

  9. Remove the air conditioning compressor and bracket. Use safety wire to support it while it is unbolted from the engine.

  1. Using the notch on the top of the timing chain case, insert a suitable tool and carefully separate the front timing chain cover from the rear cover.

  2. Using a small prybar, pry the oil seal from the timing chain cover; be careful not to scratch the timing chain cover sealing surface.

  3. Using a new oil seal, lubricate it with engine oil and press it into the timing chain cover so the seal is flush with the cover surface. Be sure to apply a small amount of grease to the inner lip of the seal upon installation of the cover.

To install:

  1. Clean the gasket material from the front and rear timing chain cases, including the bolt holes.

  2. Apply liquid gasket to the timing chain cover.

  3. Following the tightening sequence shown in the illustration, tighten the timing chain cover bolts to the specified torque.

  1. Apply liquid gasket to the water pump cover and install it to the front timing chain cover.

  2. Install the upper and lower oil pans.

  3. Install the exhaust header pipe.

  4. Install the engine mount and bracket.

  5. Install the center member assembly. Remove the engine from the hoist.

  6. Install the crankshaft damper.

  7. Install the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors.

  8. Install the A/C compressor and bracket to the engine block.

  9. Install the power steering pump.

  10. Install the accessory drive belts and the idler pulley.

  11. Fill the engine with the appropriate quantity of engine oil and coolant.

power steering pump

  1. Loosen the adjustment bolt locknut.

  2. Loosen the pump pivot bolt.

  3. Turn the adjustment bolt to change the belt tension.

  4. After adjustment is satisfactory, tighten the adjustment bolt locknut and the pump pivot bolt.

  5. Check that the tension has not changed.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figures 15 and 16

The replacement of the inner belt on multi-belted engines may require the removal of the outer belts.

To replace a drive belt, loosen the adjusting and mounting bolts of the component which the belt is driving. Move the component inward to relieve the tension on the drive belt.

Fig. 16: The replacement of some belts may require the removal of other belts

Slip the belt off the component pulley and match the new belt with the old belt for length and width. The old belt will be slightly longer. After a new belt is installed correctly, adjust the tension.

When replacing more than 1 belt, it is a good idea to make note or mark what belt goes around what pulley; this will make installation easier if you mix up the belts.

The only thing that could help you is if the part can be grabbed with a magnet and judging by the pictures, I doubt that. If he is the one that dropped the part, he would be responsible for retreiving it.

I"ve given you all the help I can here. If you don't have any more questions concerning this problem, Please click on the accept button.
