question about alternator

can a converter for an oxegen tank from the home to the car ruin an alternator? I travel 3 hours to take my husband for doctor appts. and he can't go too long without oxegen. the guy who sells us the tanks said this type of converter can ruin the alternor, is this true?

Reply to Tech501's Post: I'm not sure but certain will ask my friend. Her son bought some kind of converter that the oxegen tank system will run off the car battery (via the cigarette lighter) and she is just afraid to do the final hook up because of what the guy who sells her oxegen told her. I will ask her on Tuesday when she comes to work the voltage question. Thanks for responding and I will contact you on Tuesday next week.
