1995 dodge intrepid shift problems
Sent to Car Experts April 26 10:33 AM

1995 Dodge Intrepid 3.3 automatic won't shift out of 1st gear sometimes. check engine light comes on. have gotten code 33, 22, and 21 but some of the codes may be old and just need to be reset...any suggestions? The main problem is being at a stop light and car won't seem to shift from first. rpms go to 3000-4000 and sometimes a little over, but sometimes it shifts ok.

Someone at a local shop determined it to be the transmission control module. I don't know if this is right or not. Can't seem to find the tcm anywhere.

I AM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE THAT CAN ANSWER MY QUESTION BASED ON HAVING THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO THEM OR SOMEONE WHO HAS REPAIRED A 95 INTREPID WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AND WHAT THEY DID TO FIX IT. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS SOUNDS FARFETCHED OR NOT, BUT I AM ALREADY COMPLETELY FINANCIALLY EXHAUSTED JUST FROM BUYING THE CAR IN THE FIRST PLACE. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM? WE HAVE NOW DRIVEN THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS SINCE I POSTED THIS QUESTION AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WITH THE SHIFTING OR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON.

It just doesn't work that way. The only way you ever know for sure is to verify exactly where the problem is in the circuit. Nobody can tell you from working on a different vehicle. Every symptom can have 4 or 5 different causes. It HAS to be the technician on the scene that traces wiring and confirms where the problem is. We can only tell you how often that part may fail and a TCM is rare. even if someone had a TCM go before, it will be for a different reason.
