I have a 1997 pontiac Gd Am. At times went I park car and try to turn off the key it will not turn completely off an key won't come out of ignition. The cars engine shut off but the light radio etc. stays on, as it is like you have it turned to the assessory position, This runs down the battery. Have had in shop and they think they fixed it but so far they haven't found perments solution. Pleas help.

 The brake transmission shift lock solenoid or the ignition lock solenoid is bad.If you have a floor shift the shifter will need replaced.If not the solenoid is on the column.I'm willing to bet it's a floor shift. The solenoid is part of the shifter assembly.

I will try this and see what it does. The car sits most of the time now, as it is very maddening to say the least.
