Wheel Bearings

I was hearing a whining sound from my car the last couple of weeks so I took it to the shop and I was told the wheel bearing in my front right wheel was bad. They fixed it for around $350 and then later told the rear right bearing was bad as well. Does this sound like I am being scammed and what should I do or what questions should I ask? I asked them why the bearings would wear out only on one side and they didn't have an answer. I'd appreciate and advice on this issue. Thanks.
