transmission problem
Sent to Car Experts April 03 06:36 PM

I have a 3rd Generation Maxima and am having a problem with the tranny. Shortly after having the fluid changed the car would not shift out first gear. Upon further investigation I found that the car does shift but only after revving it to 5000 - 5500 rpms. I clicked the overdrive off button and the car downshifted beautifully into 3rd gear. The dealer told me the tranny is no good, but I disagree. Any help or advice you can give me would be highly appreciated. My car was sitting since 2003 and I was going to sell it until my discovery today.   Thanks in advance.

Reply to Tech501's Post: Thank you for the reply. Could you please hold the sarcasm. A third generation Maxima is a 89 - 94 Maxima. The 4th generation Maxima was made from 95 -99 and the fifth and sixth generations were.are made from 200 -2003 and 2004+ respectively. I have a 1991 model. Since buying the car new I have changed the fluid every other year. So the fluid has not sta around in the tranny long. As I stated earlier, the car is shifting through the gears but not at the normal rpms. The shifts happen at 5500 rpms. If the dealer did not rev the car beyond 5000 rpms, then he would think it doesn't shift either. If you can help me I would appreciate it. If not, thanks for your time.
