overheating
Sent to Car Experts March 14 07:30 PM

My 96 Lumina 3.1L V6 is overheating within the first 5-10 minutes of starting it. Coolant level is fine. I just installed a new thermostat and that was apparently not the problem. The heat in the car is coming out cold. There is no smoke or leakage of antifreeze when it overheats. Radiator is only 1 year old. System has also been bled. The car has 115k miles on it. A couple of times when I restarted the car after it cooled down, it was fine. Another time, I revved the engine a little bit and it must have caused the coolant to circulate and the temp went back to normal again. Any idea of what can be causing this?

Sounds like you still have air in the system. Run it until the thermostat opens. The shut it off and let it cool. When it's good and cool, check the coolant level again and top it off. Repeat this process again if it overheats.

Reply to Tech501's Post: Thanks for the advice but that didn't fix the problem. Maybe a flush will help?
