1975 450 sl inside the fuel tank is there a baffle? When I drained the tank the fuel comes out slowly. Is there a level indicator in the pump which will not let it pump if the pump is not full of fuel? The car seems to run great when the tank is full, when it gets down to about half a tank, or less is when the fuel pump problems seem to occour?

You may have hit the nail on the head there. I had a car that acted like that and nobody could figure out why. The baffle you refer to goes half way up the tank so if the tank is over half full, it flows over the top of it. When the fuel is lower than half the tank, that baffle area is fead by small tubes on the bottom of the tank. If you get some rust floating around the tand it will plug up that feeder tube. What I did was drop the tank and punch a couple holes in the baffle down low to feed fuel to it. That fixed it permanently.
