96 ford explorer battery problem
Sent to Car Experts October 15 05:51 PM

on a 1996 explorer a known good battery loses charge and willl not start the car after about 4hrs . The alternator has been checked and found good. It seems like something is draining the battery when the ignition is off. Is there some know n fault with a relay or other load that stays on when the ignition is off?

Hi

A good cause of this is the light in the luggage compartment not going off, and is common amongst all makes and models.

Reply to Geordie's Post: I should have added that I checked for lights being on last night and found nothing.

It has been known for alarms to drain the battery. Disarm the alarm and see if that sorts out the problem.

Reply to Geordie's Post: Sorry for not getting back to you. It turns out that Auto zone must not know how to use their equipment. I took it to another place that someone recommended and they said that the battery was discharging internally after a while. A new battery was bought and so far it apprears to have solved the problem. Why I have to have things done twice to get it right is beyond me.
If by chance auto zone was right , I will try the alarm , if it has one . Thanks
