2000 ford windstar tranny

I have a 2000 Ford Windstar SE with a 3.8L engine, after the car has been driven 15/20 miles and is good and warm the transmission does not always hold first gear at a stop. It does better if I take the over drive off and sometimes if I take the traction control off. Any ideas as to what the problem could be?
