Engine rpm is too high while driving
Sent to Car Experts September 23 09:11 PM

I drive a 1995 Chrysler Cirrus. While driving home on the highway, I noticed that the rpm was very high and the car got very noisy (loud revving sound like the fan is on). I pulled over to check if the oil level was okay (it was), but I could not check the radiator (engine was too hot from driving). I got off the highway and drove in town instead. The high rpms continued but this time the oil light came on when I slow down or stop at the light. the car does not stall; the rpms go up to 4 or 5. What does this mean?

Hi

When you come to a stop will the car idle at around 800 rpms? I would check the trans fluid to see if its low. From what you are saying it sounds like it the trans is sliping giving you the high rpms when driving.
