my 1999 mercury villager's "service engine light" came on and it ran rough after starting. The car was running good and had no problems before. It was shut down for about 30 minutes when this happened.
I took it to a repair shop where they diagnosed it with need for new plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. I had this work performed and they then informed me that my injectors needed replacement at considerable cost. They did show me what they thought was the culprit injector which is upfront and accessable. Is this single injector replacement within the ability of the weekend mechanic and do I need to buy a manual to perform the replacement?
The check engine light came back on and went from steady/blinking to now it is blinking.
I filled my gas tank with 91 octane gas when the problem first occurred. I filled it before going to the parts store and buying injector cleaner so I had to buy the cleaner you put in the full tank rather than the more expensive ones (I presume) work better.
Should I leave it as it is and hope the cleaner will clean the injector and perhaps struggle through until the tank is low and use the more expensive chemical?
