I believe my car needs new cv joints. There is a clicking noise when I turn to the right and all the way to the left. My cv joints are covered by warranty. But I am not sure if the boots are covered. How much does a cv boot usually cost?

2003 Chevy Impala 77,000 miles.. Bought it used.. I believe the engine is a 3.4.. I have paid 600 dollars and I believe I have been ripped off so far..But have had new struts, greasing parts to see if that would help, and brakes. They mentioned something to me about the rack and pinion and then told me that it wasnt the problem.

The CV shaft come with boots, They should not charge you for them. I would hope they are replacing the whole shaft and not just the joint. It is more cost effective to replace the whole thing. Boots are around 25.00 dollars. Labor to change the CV joint is more that replacing the Whole axle shaft.

So if I have bad joints they will replace the whole shaft? How much does that usually cost? I've been told around 150? Is that correct or not really? my car is at a low labor rate place so.. That shouldnt be a problem.. Thanks!

Re-manufactured CV shaft at NAPA are 98.00 list. New are 145.00 dollars. It is always better to go with the new ones (lifetime warranty that way) The labor is about 1 hour each side. The boots are 34.00 dollars each. and your car has a total of 4 boots.

Do all of the boots need to be replaced? Or just the front where the problem is?

Only where the problem is. Just check and make sure that they are not cracked in the other boots or you will be replacing them shortly after this one is done. That is another reason to replace the whole shaft.

My last question thanks for your patience. My warranty says that it covers all internal lubricated parts in the following: Diffrential Housing, Transfer case, cv joints, universal joints and bearings.. does this sound like my problem is covered or not really? And the second part of my question would have to be you talked about replacing the whole shaft? Do I have to purchase a shaft for the left and right side so bringing the total to 300? Because you had said 150 for the shaft. Or is it just one shaft for the front?

If the joint is clicking, yes it would be covered and most warranty company's will replace the whole axle. In fact I don't think the CV joint can be purchased by it self at this time except maybe at the dealer.

So is it just one axle in the front that would have to be replaced?

If it makes a clicking noise when I turn the wheel to the left and to the right does that mean both sides are bad?
