electric cooling fan normal operation??????
Sent to Car Experts September 04 06:26 PM

My daughter has a 1997 Chevy Cavalier. The electric cooling fan only comes on when you turn the AC on or the defroster. I never here it come on during normal driving or when idling. I have watched it, and it never comes on. When you trun the AC or defroster on it runs continuously. Is this normal or is there a problem?

The fan only comes on by temperature. If the engine doesn't reach a certain point the fan will remain off.Unless you use the defroster or a/c.If the car is not overheating it is probably okay. You could hold the engine at a fast idle but it could take ten minutes or more for the fan to come on depending on outside temperature.
