sounds like you have a bad ignition tumbler , if the key gets stuck in the on position . also most G.M. have a sensor on the ignition system that are very commen failures 2 small wires going to the tumbler, they always break , ya id say you need to have someone replace the ignition tumbler and ignition switch at the same time . now when you try to crank the engine do you hear anything a click maybe from the starter ??

had ignition checked/selanoids, etc...no prob. Latest theory is relays - possibly sticking...car cranks but doesn't catch. not battery, had that changed....that all sounds and acts normal....

doesn't happen every time: no pattern, not hot/cold,,,,driven, sitting, whatever....

any other thougths?

so far it has eventually started - maximum attempts has been about 4, but sometimes it takes 2 or 3....doesn't seem to have a pattern - not every X amount of starts, not weather, not day or night...but you're right it does crank, just sometimes doesn't start right away.....someone suggested possible relay(s) sticking...????sound possible? how to know which ones....etc....

thanks for keeping up with this!

you know what it sounds to me like this might be a fuel pressure problem , and the reason the car starts after 2 or 3 or 4 cranks is because youve built up enough pressure to get the car to start , do me a favor remove the engine plastic cover and check the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator , if it has fuel on it , if it does then replace the regulator and problem solved .
