I have a 79 BMW, 528i, automatic transmission id# ZF 3 ...

I have a 79 BMW, 528i, automatic transmission id# ZF 3 HP-22. The tranmission was overhauled and the selector lever was adjusted upon re-installation. On the first try everything work. We drove the car and P, R, N, D, 1, 2 all worked. The car was then parked and when it was started again later that day only P, R & N worked. The car does nothing anymore when you switch to the forward gears!?? What tips can you give me on what could have gone wrong?
