My car AC is not working right when I turn it on it ...

My car AC is not working right when I turn it on it doesn't sound like is working it just blow out air that is not cool. I can't hear the engine drop ilde like it's not coming on ,
took it to a repair shop they said that they need to do some electical work but that don't sound right because they unplugged the compressor and run a wire from the battery to the ac and it work great what could be the problem.
