Wheel bearings 300$ each?
Sent to Car Experts October 29 08:38 PM

My car is making this odd whirring noise when I drive, I took it in, the mechanic drove it, came back and said my wheel bearing is going bad. Because I have a 1989 Ford Festiva which was built by Kia, the parts are very hard to get, he thinks around 300$, and Ill need 4. Is he refering to Wheel bearings which are 7$? Or what is he refering to? Does that sound right?

Thanks

Well I found some description of parts online that said :clutch, pressure plate , bearing =370$. so Im thinking this is a clutch thing, not a wheel thing?

front bearings on your car sell for9.99$a side. Rears are9.49$ for both sides inner and outer at auto zone.
The front bearings are quite involved to install because the car is front wheel drive. I could not find a proceedure time on your vehical, but would estamate it at 1.5 hours a side.
So at 80$ dollars an hour both sides labor would be240$ plus parts lets say list price of $50 the front bearing job both sides would be under $300. Remember I'm only Guessing at the time. But your Mechanic should be able to tell you how much time exactly before starting the job. I used $80 an hour labor rate witch is high in many parts of the country.
The rear bearings are much easer and should be under 1/2 hour a side so the rears should come in at $100 or so.
All together around $400 for all 4 wheels I would say $500 tops for complete 4 wheel bearing job. Remember I'm not doing the job however I did research it and this in my opinion is a fair liberal estamate.
