Question

starting problem

Sent to Car Experts August 03, 2006 4:40 p.m.

I have a 1995 Chrysler Sebring 2.5L V-6 w/145000 miles on it. The timing belt was changed about 2k ago and the car has been running great. Last week the car died while I was driving it. After it was towed home I checked the fuel pump for operation. It was comming on and the tank is half full. I checked to see if there was gas in the fuel rails and there was. I then checked to see if I had spark, arching the spark plug, with spark plug wire on, to a good ground and there was no spark in the first three plugs I checked. I checked the distributor cap and rotor and they seemed fine. I made sense that it was the coil and I tried to buy one. This coil is in the distributor and I had to buy a rebuilt distributo which also has the came sensor in it. This did not fix the problem. I do have voltage comming to the distributor. I then checked to see if I had voltage comming to the crankshaft sensor and I do have 5 volts but cannot check it any further as I do not have an oscilliscope and the engine does not run. After reading the schematic over and over again it only seemed possible to be the P.C.M. I ordered a rebuilt one, installed it and no starting happened. I was donating this car to a young man who was joining the California Highway Patrol Academy and needed transportation. This has turned out to be a disastor and I am at my witts end. All I wanted to do was help a young person and now I am out a few hundred bucks. Please help me find an answer.
