Check the battery if its multiple clicks your hearing its a sign of dead battery or bad connection to starter. if battery is low charge and test also test altenator. not uncommon for new battery to be bad. If you get it charged most major parts stores can test battery and altenator at no cost. If it is a single click it may be starter if so give it a gentle rap(s) while hsving someone hold the key in start psition.
