I have a 2001 ford escort, about 3 days the radio and clock and all that wont turn on now. I also noticed that the cover at the entrance of the cassette player is broken and is now jammed in the cassette player. I checked the radio fuze and it seems to be okay, but i cant firgure out why my system wont turn on now. My car has a 6 cd changer in the back, a cassete player, and a radio. If anyone could tell me what i could try to fix it I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

How did you "check" the fuse(s)? It needs to either be checked with a 12 volt test light or just replace it. Actually, anytime you have an electrical fault, you should check ALL fuses including any in the engine compartment fuse boxes with a 12 volt test light. The little metal stubs that stick up on top of the fuse, those are there to use the test light. Both sides should light up the test light. If only one side lights up the test light then the fuse is bad. Take the alligator clip on the test light and clip it to a good ground.

Reply to Sparkybuoy's Post: I recieved you reply and went out and bought some fuzes and a tester. I tried it on the radio fuze and a few others. But it still doesnt turn on. It may have shorted out or something, i dont know, im guessing i might have to take it to the dealer and let them check it out because i dont even know where else to check myself.

If other parts of that circuit are working like the dome light and the cigarette lighter, then the circuit is fine and it's just the radio and I worked for Ford for a long time and trust me, it's not uncommon for a Ford radio to just go south without any forewarning. If you end up needing another unit let me know! I have a couple of the am/fm/cassette units. Be careful not to abuse the engine once it gets a ton of miles on it as that generation of Escort is notorious for dropping Intake valve seats and grenading the motor. If you ever hear a weird/loud/clattering/knocking engine noise, shut it down right away and have it looked at-preferably someone with a borescope.
