Question

what generally is the likely cause of a overheating car?

Sent to Car Experts July 18, 2006 1:17 p.m.

My car is overheating and I cannot afford to take it to a mechanic unless I have absolutely no other option. I do not know much about cars, but I checked the levels of coolant and I refilled it with antifreeze and water. Steam is still coming out of the hood and I do not know what to check or do next. Can you tell me any of the likely causes of this and also how much I can expect to pay if I have to go to a mechanic to have it fixed?

Optional Information:
1992 Buick Skylark

Already Tried:
I have tried checking the coolant levels and refilling it.
