I have a 2001 pontiac montana...how do I know if ...

I have a 2001 pontiac montana...how do I know if the fuel pump is going out? Does it make an audible noise? There is a buzzing noise near the fuel tank & the car dies once it gets hot. We have to let it cool before we can start it again.
