2000 Dodge Durango with 4.7 liter engine has an intermitant ...

Sent to Car Experts July 17, 2006 11:09 p.m.

2000 Dodge Durango with 4.7 liter engine has an intermitant problem with the Brake warning light and ABS warning light coming on. No codes found on OBD2 scan. No physical brake problem and no problem with brake performance. I read that some of these vehicles have this problem and it is an in dash wiring harness issue. Do you know anything about this?

Optional Information:
2000 Dodge Durango 4.7

Already Tried:
Physical Inspection; OBD2 scan

REPLIED Check Mark

Unless your using a professional scan tool with ABS capability, you won't get the right codes.

Generic code readers cannot access ABS codes.

Yes, I am aware of that. The Dodge dealer and an independant car care center as well as the inspection station all have found no explaination for this code. I ran the scan myself on it at the inspection station using their OTC scanner. The problem is intermitant. Sometimes it's on for days or weeks. Other times it's not on for months. This has gone on for over 2 years. My research on the internet has indicated this to be a problem with some Dakota Pickups and Durangos of the 99' model year but not enough to issue a recall. This Durango is a 2000. The internet information I found said it was a problem in the dash wiring harness. I can tell you though that when the dealer checked it, the light was out. When the independant shop checked it, the light was on as well as when I checked it. It doesn't seem this is hurting anything but I would like to find the problem and remedy it even if it is something harmless.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

If your actually scanning the ABS module and fiinding no codes, although the light is on, then you have to be looking at some kind of ABS module failure. It's giving false indicators.

I don't know how common this can be. There isn't even a TSB on anything close.
