I have a '95 Pontiac GTP with the 3.4x engine and the 4T60E transaxle. After about 30 minutes of driving, even while using the cruise control, the trans drops shifts from 4th back to 3rd, and it loses TCC lockup. Deceleration functions like the trans is in neutral. Otherwise the trans functions fine with the selector still in 4th, but no 4th, no TCC lockup, and no deceleration function.   I can stop the car, shut it off, and restart, but it doesn't correct the problem until the car sits for about an hour or more.

The fluid level is up and the color still looks good after a little over 30k on the fluid and filter.

Thanks in advance.

Optional Information:
1995 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.4x

Already Tried:
Checked fluid level and consulted my factory GM service manual (I own the set) for diagnostic procedures.

Hi Bryan,

They're up there at 170k of mostly highway miles. Even so, it still has the solid feel of a new trans. Even when the problem has manifested itself for that particular trip to or from work, it's still perfectly drivable, except for the nags I posted (also obviously, engine RPM 1000 RPM higher in 3rd than 4th, which is killing the gas mileage).

thanks
