I have an 02   V W GTI
Trouble starting
It cranks and catches but immediatly dies, over and over.
I just replaced the battery as it was dead.
My Mechanic said the car has lost it's memory programing for running ( T or F ) I dunno
Anyway I'm stalled at possible fuel filter or fuel pump that is going bad.
What do you think it is?

Your tech is right about the lost memory. After driving at vary speeds reaching at least 45 MPH including stops and starts the memory should be reset. If after this you are still having trouble start bye cleaning the throttle body and Idle control motor and passages. A fuel pressure and volume test need to be done to check pump and filter. You can rent a gauge at most major parts stores. Pressure is 36psi and volume should be 12oz. in 15 seconds. Volume test is a good indicator of the fuel filter stopped up if it's low. Is this a turbo? I'll be around if you need more help.

Reply to 32dmadden's Post: Yes it's a turbo.

Do I have to take it to VW Dealer to reset the programming or can most repair shops handel that?
