Question

1991 Dodge Dynasty

Sent to Car Experts June 24, 2006 10:36 a.m.

I have a 1991 Dodge Dynasty that recently stopped up shifting. It will go into reverse and drive and will move like normal but will not shift out of low gear any more.. I have had the tranny serviced and the fluid chjanged and an additive added to the fluid but no improvement. Several people have said that it is more likely a wire from the computer that sends shift messages to the tranny. However, I am not an automotive type person and have no clue. The car has over 170,000 miles and has earned a honored place in our life. I would apprecaite any help you can give.

On the day something went wrong the transmission was running well as we slowed down to exit the highway. We came to the standard stop and when we started up again, it wouldn't shift up out of low gear. The only other thing that has been going on for quite a while is that the speedometer goes int fits of dropping to zero then back up again - very irradically. I didn't think much of it because the car still ran in Cruise Control without a problem, it always has. The action of the speedometer never interffered with the Cruise control. I hae always kept a close eye on the fluid level and had checked it just days before the problem developed.
