Air Conditioning system
Sent to Car Experts June 18 10:15 AM

I have a 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and I took my car to the dealer for them to check out my air conditioning system and they stated that the system has been contaminated with the wrong freon. Do you think this is wise to get fixed and what is needed to get the system from not being contaminated. Would I need to get new parts or what?

Yes I would get it fixed. Most likely someone put some aftermaket freon in. The dealer has a machine to identify the kind of freon used. Some can't be verified. Most of that stuff has a butane base. So your riding around in a large cigarette lighter. Or it could have been an R-12 system that someone added 134A and pag. oil causing contamination. I would have this fixed also. To fix it the system will have to be flushed, compressor removed and oil drained, accumulator and orfice tube replaced. Parts and labor should be $400 to $500. Hope this helps out. Please accept my answer if your satisfied. Thanks 32dmadden
