Black smoke usually indicates a rich fuel mixture that can be caused by several different things. From bad o2 sensor to severe mechanical problems. My suggestion is if you have a regular repair shop bring it to them and have them check it out even if it cost you an hours labor, you'll want at least a compression check and a coolant pressure check done. See if motor is sound If seller not willing don't buy. Go to nada.com find out what car is worth have it checked out for cost of repairs. If sale price + repairs are greater than value not a car you want to purchase, Becuase value will only decrease in coming years. If this has been helpful an accept would be appreciated or if you need more info let me know. Thank you Bill.
